Al Waxman's portrait was commissioned shortly after his death. After selecting a site for the sculpture near Kensington Market, I sought input from Al's son Adam on why Al might be standing there! My inquiries finally summoned exactly what I needed as Adam declared, "You want me to set the scene!" It was a moment of clarity; I was creating a moment in time, not just a set of recognizable features.
